Generally ventral means near the lower or under side of an animal. It is an opposite end of dorsal. In fishes, ventral side always stays in the bottom/floor of water-bodies during locomotion. In human, it is on the front side of the body.

  • The word “ventral’ is created from the Latin word “venter” that means belly.
  • The ventral surfaces of the higher animal body include the chest, abdomen, shins, palms, and soles.
