An organism having a constant body temperature such as in humans the average internal temperature is 37.0 °C (98.6 °F).
Homeothermic animal (also known Endothermic animal) is able to regulate its body temperature with the help of two biological mechanisms such as chemical thermoregulation (regulation of heat production in the organism) and physical thermoregulation (regulation of heat loss to the environment).
For example: mammals (human, bat, cat etc.) or bird (magpie, peacock, heron etc.)
উষ্ণ রক্ত বিশিষ্ট প্রাণী:
যেসব প্রাণীরা দেহের তাপমাত্রা আভ্যন্তরীণভাবে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে পারে ফলে এদের দেহের তাপমাত্রা পরিবেশের তাপমাত্রা পরিবর্তনের সাথে পরিবর্তিত না হয়ে একটি সুনির্দিষ্ট মাত্রায় অবস্থান করে তাদেরকে উষ্ণ রক্ত বিশিষ্ট প্রাণী (উষ্ণশোণিত প্রাণীও বলা হয়) বলে।
উষ্ণশোণিত প্রানীর উদাহরণ: স্তন্যপায়ী প্রাণী (মানুষ, বাঘ, বিড়াল, বাদুর ইত্যাদি) ও পাখি (দোয়েল, কোয়েল, বক ইত্যাদি)।
সাধারণত শীতল পরিবেশে এরা দেহাভ্যন্তরে গৃহীত খাদ্য থেকে বাড়তি তাপ উৎপাদন করতে পারে আবার এদের দেহস্থ সঞ্চিত চর্বি অথবা লোম, পালক ইত্যাদি বহিঃঅঙ্গ দেহস্থ তাপ হারাতে বাঁধা দেয়। অন্যদিকে উষ্ণ পরিবেশে তাদের দেহ উপরিস্থ জলীয় উপাদান (moisture) বাষ্পীভবনের (evaporation) মাধ্যমে শরীরকে শীতল রাখতে সহায়তা করে।
