Fish larvae [singular fish larva, (also known sac fry, yolk fry)] is the fry of fish between hatching and complete absorption of the yolk sac. That means a yolk sac bearing fish fry is known fish larva or sac fry or yolk fry.
It is also called as larval stage of fish (also known fish larval stage). In this stage, fish larva absorbs yolk from yolk sac for the fulfilment of necessary nutrients. It also becomes scaled (in those species which have scales) and morphologically resembles the adult. After finishing this stage it is known as simply fry or fish fry.
The larva of a salmonid is called alevin.
ডিম পোনা:
ডিম ফুটে বাচ্চা বের হওয়া থেকে শুরু করে কুসুম থলি নিঃশেষ হওয়া পর্যন্ত মাছের পোনার পর্যায়কে ডিম পোনা (sac fry বা fish larva) বলা হয়। অর্থাৎ এক কথায় কুসুম থলি বিশিষ্ট মাছের পোনাই হচ্ছে ডিম পোনা।
এসময়ে ধীরে ধীরে এদের আঁইশ দৃষ্টিগোচর হতে শুরু করে (যেসব মাছের আঁইশ বর্তমান) এবং শেষ পর্যায়ে এরা প্রকৃতি থেকে খাদ্য গ্রহণে সক্ষমতা অর্জন করে এবং পূর্ণাঙ্গ মাছের অঙ্গসংস্থানিক বৈশিষ্ট্য অর্জন করে। তখন তাদেরকে পোনা বা রেণু পোনা বলা হয়।
ডিম পোনার কিছু অঙ্গসংস্থানিক বৈশিষ্ট্য পরিণত মাছের থেকে আলাদা পরিলক্ষিত হওয়ায় মৎস্যবিজ্ঞানীরা একে মাছের শূক বা লার্ভা (fish larva) হিসেবেও বিবেচনা করে থাকেন।
