Sound:
Sound is a vibration which is produced by any vibrating elements and transmitted in the form of waves through some medium such as gases (like air), liquids (like water, oil etc.) or solids (like metal, plastic, wood etc.) and received by mainly the ear of vertebrates.

Animals specially vertebrates can not detect all frequencies of vibration. Such as, human can detect the frequency of vibration a range of about 20 Hz to 20 kHz. According to Fay (1988) and Warfield (1973), the approximate hear range of some aquatic species is given at this point: Beluga Whale 1 kHz – 123 kHz, Porpoise 75 Hz – 150 kHz, Goldfish 20 Hz – 3 kHz, Catfish 50 Hz – 4 kHz, Tuna 50 Hz – 1.1 kHz (here, Hz = hertz and kHz = kilohertz; hertz is equivalent to cycles per second that means 1 wave per second is 1 hertz, 1 thousand waves per second is 1 kHz).

Invertebrates do not hear in the same way vertebrates do, some of them (such as crab) are able to detect sound wave (vibration) by special sensory organ named chordotonal organs (a kind of internal mechanoreceptors).
