ভূতের জাল

জলাশয়ে (প্রধানত সমুদ্রে) হারিয়ে যাওয়া বা ফেলে দেয়া তথা পরিত্যক্ত জাল যাতে প্রতিনিয়ত মাছ আটকে মারা যায় তাকে ভূতের জাল (ghost nets) বলে।

মাছ ধরার পরিত্যক্ত যন্ত্রের (যেমন জাল, ফাঁদ, পাত্র, বড়শি ইত্যাদি) মাধ্যমে মাছ ধৃত হওয়ার বিষয়টিই হচ্ছে ভূতের মাছ ধরা বা ভূতের মাছ শিকার (Ghost fishing)।

এভাবে ধৃত মাছ একসময় মারা যায় এবং আবর্জনা ভক্ষকদের খাবারে পরিণত হয়। ফলশ্রুতিতে এর মাধ্যমে কেউই লাভবান হতে পারে না। বর্তমানে এটিকে জলজ জীববৈচিত্র্য ও বাণিজ্যিক মৎস্য মজুদের জন্য ক্ষতিকর হিসেবে বিবেচিত করা হয়।

Ghost nets
Ghost nets are fishing nets that have been lost or left or dumped in any water bodies (mainly sea, ocean etc.) by mostly fishermen and continued to capture aquatic organism. In the simple words, the discard (lost, dumped or derelict) fishing nets that continued capturing fish are known ghost nets.

On the other hand, ghost fishing means the continued capturing of aquatic organism (such as fish, turtle, dolphin etc.) by a discard fishing gear (mainly net, traps, pots, hooks, long lines etc.).

Caught fishes (by ghost gears) die and becoming a food of scavengers. As a result, ghost fishing might not benefit anyone. Now a day, it is considered as harmful to aquatic biodiversity as well as commercial fish stocks.
